Current Researchers

Terry Cronan, Ph.D.  

 

Principal Investigator

Dr. Cronan received her PhD in ecological/community psychology from Michigan State University.  Her research has been focused on developing, implementing, and evaluating community-based programs. Dr. Cronan’s main interest is in developing and testing interventions for people with chronic health conditions. Dr. Cronan also directs programs for underrepresented and disadvantaged students.  

Nicole Marr

 

Graduate Research Assistant 
 

Nicole is a second-year graduate student in the M.A. Psychology program at SDSU. She joined the lab as an undergraduate in the spring of 2017 and graduated Summa Cum Laude in May 2018 with her B.A. in psychology. Nicole’s research interests include chronic illness, nutrition, eating behaviors, and overall health-related behaviors. Nicole plans to earn her Ph.D. and pursue a career in academia teaching and conducting health research.

Alan Patrus

 

Undergraduate Research Assistant 
 

Alan is an undergraduate student who joined the lab in the spring of 2018. Alan is majoring in Biology and is a pre-medical student. Alan joined the lab because of his interest in the applications of research on health illnesses prevalent in underrepresented communities.

Gianna Cecchini

 

Undergraduate Research Assistant 
 

Gianna is an undergraduate student at San Diego State University majoring in Psychology with a minor in Biology. She joined Dr. Cronan’s lab in the Summer of 2018 due to her interest in the medical field and hopes to pursue a career in either Neuropsychology or Health Psychology. She is expected to graduate with her Bachelor’s degree in the Spring of 2020.

Lily Wash

 

Undergraduate Research Assistant 
 

Lily is an undergraduate student at San Diego State University majoring in Psychology with a minor in Spanish. She joined Dr. Cronan's lab in the Spring of 2020 due to her interest in medicine and dreams to pursue a career in clinical psychology. After completing her Bachelor's in the Spring of 2021 she plans to earn a Ph.D. and study treatments for psychopathology.

Nancy Cronan

 

Project Coordinator 

Nancy Cronan joined the lab in 1995.  She has been the project coordinator for several large studies associated with the Health Outcomes Studies Lab, including Osteoarthritis, Fibromyalgia, and Health Advocacy studies.  She was the Program Coordinator for the Career Opportunities in Research (COR) Program, and the Minority Research Infrastructure Support Program (M-RISP) both funded by the National Institutes of Health, as well as currently coordinating the Advancing Diversity in Aging Research (ADAR) Program funded by the National Institute on Aging.

Linda Thompson

 

Graduate Research Assistant 
 

Linda is a first-year graduate student in the M.A. Psychology program at SDSU and joined the lab in Fall 2019. She graduated Magna Cum Laude from SFSU with a B.A. in psychology and a minor in special education/ disability in May 2018. Linda’s research interests include the physical/mental effects of stress, chronic illness, trauma, and coping mechanisms. Linda plans to earn a Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology to pursue a career in conducting research as a professor and establishing a private practice of therapy.

Tessa Carovich

 

Undergraduate Research Assistant 
 

Tessa is an undergraduate student at San Diego State University and is majoring in biology and a pre-medical student. Tessa joined the lab because of her interest in the medical field and relating health to psychology. Tessa joined the lab in Summer of 2018 and is expected to graduate in the spring of 2020.

Kassandra Azzoo

 

Undergraduate Research Assistant 
 

Kassandra is an undergraduate student at San Diego State University majoring in Psychology and minoring in Counseling and Social Change. She joined Dr. Cronan's lab in the Spring of 2019 due to her interest in Health Psychology. After completing her bachelor's degree, she  plans to attend graduate school and pursue Clinical Health Psychology or an MFT degree.

Elan Zora

 

Undergraduate Research Assistant 
 

Elan is an undergraduate student at San Diego State University majoring in Biology and minoring in Psychology and Interdisciplinary Studies.  He joined the lab in the Spring of 2020 due to his interest in relating Health Psychology to medicine. He plans to finish his bachelor’s degree in the Spring of 2021.
